I purchased Total Protection 2012 for my husband's laptop through Amazon in Dec 2011, and I am purchasing 2013 to have so that I can update it when it expires. I had a paid subscription with a different security company on my laptop, so I didn't install Total Protection on it. In January I got a NASTY virus (from a 'safe' website that I had visited 100's of times) on my laptop that damaged my Windows 7 and made it impossible to access the internet-even when hooked up with the cable. Needless to say once I was up and running I installed McAfee on my laptop. I have not had any trouble with my computer since. I know that there are times when 'subscription renewal' pop-ups get annoying, but I DID NOT have to enter my credit card information when I purchased Total Protection 2012-if they had asked for such, I would've returned the product for a refund. Use your head for something more than a hat rack is my advice.
